(Submitted by Ted Bollard)

Recent events of a negative nature have prompted me to let it be known the ethos

which prevails in our club, so that seniors and juniors who join us know what is expected of them.

We abide strictly by the rules and regulations of table tennis in every aspect of open competition. Within the social clime (because as well as being a competitive

club we are also a social club)  the more senior players who are playing for enjoyment are not expected to change the habits (sometimes bad) of a lifetime in the game, therefore, they are not subject to the stricter codes of behaviour expected of our tournament players both senior and junior.

From the beginning, our juniors are instructed to be fair ( no cheating) to be polite, (acknowledge luck in nets and edges), not to engage in any intimidatory or bad behaviour whatsoever( Shouting, cursing, banging the table, throwing bats, kicking barriers, etc) When spectating they are expected to applaud a good shot, but not to applaud an opponents mistake.

As coaches, we try to instill these ideas within the club so that they become natural behavior during competition. Our senior competitors are expected to know these things as a matter of form.

There are some out there who think that most of the above is unnecessary trivia, that table tennis is a sport, and that winning by any means is ok, but we don't go along with that and expect others in return to treat us fairly (1 Nov 2018)

Tara, Claire and Sabina finished the first weekend of their Womens British League campaign top of their division having won all their matches.

After a bad start to the weekend due to illness, Clare finished in 5th place in the women's group of the Irish National classification event. (1 Oct. 2018)

Dun Laoire TTC has been in existence for two years, following its former life of over 60 years as York Road TTC. In that time we made two applications for assistance with equipment, first many years ago to the ITTA and latterly quite recently to TTI when they made an offer of tables to interested clubs. We are quite sure that our story is in common to many other clubs, inasmuch as we received absolutely no satisfaction whatsoever to either request.

We had been in discussions with a local school who had agreed to become a feeder school for our club at the time of the TTI offer. We applied for three tables and some surrounds, and because we were doing something which was of benefit to TTI,we were fairly confident that we would be successful in our application so we gave three of our older, more worn tables to the school in question with an offer of free coaching for a term.In return we got nothing from Table Tennis Ireland.

We had planned a Challenger type event for young players, but without proper safe tables, we will be unable to proceed with this event.

A Happy New Year to all from

Dun Laoire TTC

Claire and Paul represented the club at the Pingzone Grand Prix event Saturday 30th December. Both played well in a very competitive tournament. Great match practice.

The club is disappointed that Claire and Nga were not allowed compete with the men in the Leinster Metropolitan tournament this weekend 19th Nov because there were not enough women entered.

Last season when the women entry was low they were allowed to compete with the men all the time. Looks like a male chauvinistic Leinster Branch this season. They need to examine their policies immediately.

Congratulations to Nga on her way to Guernsey today to take part in the Senior 6 Nations for Ireland. First club player to get a senior cap since Tara.
